Event- Launch Of Acsension Mas Band!

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending a cool event; the launch of Acsension Mas Band which is set to take the 27th annual Miami Broward One Carnival by storm. The Miami Broward One Carnival Parade of Bands and Masqueraders adorn Miami with colorful costumes, infectious sounds of the Caribbean all while nibbling on the the culinary tastes of the Caribbean.

The Acsension Mas Band under the guidance of band leader, Samuel Trotman have titlted this year's inaugural theme "L'eau de Vie" (Water of Life). Costumes are inspired by the wonders of the ocean, with colors and designs reminiscent of the most beautiful creatures of the sea.

For those seeking beauty, comfort, affordability, and diversity should definitely consider Acsension as you will not be disappointed. Costume prices range from $175 to $475. Check out a few pics and a video teaser showing what Acsension has in store for all of you Carnival goers:

Beyonce Covers Complex Mag!

The bad chick that is Beyonce Knowles covers the August/September issue of Complex magazine.

On the making of 4:

Figuring out a way to get R&B back on the radio is challenging. Everything sounds the same on the radio. With 4 I tried to mix R&B from the ’70s and the ’90s with rock ‘n’ roll and a lot of horns to create something new and exciting. I wanted musical changes, bridges, vibrata, live instrumentation, and classic songwriting.

On why Frank Ocean was a must for her album:
Jay had a CD playing in the car one Sunday when we were driving to Brooklyn. I noticed his tone, his arrangements, and his storytelling. I immediately reached out to him—literally the next morning. I asked him to fly to New York and work on my record.

On knowing what makes a hit:
I’ve found that with hit records the melody and lyrics come together [naturally]. I usually know from the hook if the song is something that transcends language, race, and genre, and if it’s something that affects pop culture. It’s something I can visualize people singing in stadiums all over the world. But my favorite songs on my albums are usually not my singles.
On Jay-Z as a creative genius:
Jay’s music is more than music. His lyrics have fathered generations. All that he has overcome gives millions so much hope. There are moments when I see his lips moving and I can see lyrics floating above his head and I think, ‘Wow! How did I get so lucky to be able to witness this level of genius so closely?

On rivalries in the game:

There is room on this earth for many queens. I have an authentic, God-given talent, drive, and longevity that will always separate me from everyone else. I’ve been fortunate to accomplish things that the younger generation of queens dream of accomplishing. I have no desire for anyone else’s throne. I am very comfortable in the throne I’ve been building for the past 15 years.

On motivation and complaining:
I only allow myself one day to feel sorry for myself. People who complain really get on my nerves. When I’m not feeling my best I ask myself, ‘What are you gonna do about it?’ I use the negativity to fuel the transformation into a better me.
On her legacy:
I just want my legacy to be great music. Someone who was a risk taker and someone who had songs that struck conversation and emotion.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony Call It Quits!

I would be lying if I said I saw this coming. One of my peeps hit me up yesterday, while on my way to the Sade concert to tell me that Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony were getting a divorce after seven years of marriage. WTH? I really thought this was working for them. I guess it wasn't. They have three-year old twins. This is Lopez's third marriage and Anthony's second. Wow, I wonder what happened. Monica Dropped A Cool Million On Her Wedding Dress!

Singer Monica who married her husband Lakers' player Shannon Brown in a lavish ceremony last weekend, paid 1 million dollars for her dress. What the French Toast? 1 million dollars???
Is it because I don't have it like that I think 1 million dollars for a wedding dress is outrageous? Wow. I don't even see what the big deal is about the dress. Don't get me started on Mo's hair. What are your thoughts?

By now everyone knows Monica married her love, Shannon Brown twice—once last November and again on July 9. What many didn’t know is while the couple chose to wed quietly last year, they pulled out the stops the second time around, beginning with the dress.

Many are unaware Monica’s Stephanie Rolland corseted mermaid gown cost $1 million, Yahoo! reports. Made of silk organza, satin and crystals, the ivory-colored dress is gorgeous and classic. In attendance were about 300 guests and Monica’s two sons Rodney (6) and Romelo (3) from a previous relationship with Rodney “Rocko” Hill, whom she met when she was only 19 years old.

Although she and Rocko are said to have split for sure last spring, Monica has moved onto the handsome 25-year-old Brown, who recently opted out of his LA Lakers contract. Much success to the four of them.

Waka Flocka Retires From Rap!

After 3 years in the music business, rapper Waka Flocka is retiring from rap. *Yawns* He stated in a recent interview that the music biz is foul and he would rather work at Wal-Mart. It's a slow news day ya'll, sorry.

On Twitter, he wrote “This game 2 Fake I quite rap after this year.”

His mother and manager, Deb Antney, confirmed the tweet by saying that her son is disgusted with the industry and will stop touring and going to the studio.

Flame recently spoke with Ryan Cameron on Atlanta radio station V-103 and spoke about his retirement.

“I’m tired of going through what I go through,” Flame said. “And punk a–es always rain on my world. There’s so [many] different haters, fake smiles, different hugs. I’d rather work at Walmart than rap, and that’s my word on God. Yup, I put that on Jesus Christ. I’m not lying or nothing. It’s something I could never explain to people because they could never understand it ‘cause they not living the lifestyle. At the end of the day, the people who’s living the lifestyle could understand why I’m doing it.”

Good luck Waka. Let's see how long this lasts....

World Premiere- Beyonce "Best Thing I Never Had"

Check out Beyonce's video for the single "Best Thing I Never Had" of her newly released album "4"

Beyonce's 4 Hits Number One On Billboard!

She has done it again. Beyonce enters Billboard 200 in the number one spot. Although, some were skeptical about the album, Bey proved her critics wrong. The album sold 310,000 copies in its first week. How about them apples!

Her 2003 hit ‘Dangerously in Love’ sold 317,000; the 2006 album ‘B’Day’ topped the charts at 541,000 sold; and in 2008 ‘I Am…Sasha Fierce’ debuted at 482,000.

'4' is the songstress' fourth solo album to reach the coveted number one spot. She joins the ranks of three other artists, and the second woman (Britney Spears being the first), to achieve such a feat.

Though her record label is 'vindicated', '4' is the lowest-selling album in Beyonce's oeuvre. Speculation over the album's 'soft entry' is linked to the lack of an obvious smash hit. Maybe this will take a toll in the future, but for right now, with '4'claiming 2011's third largest week in album sales.

Congrats King B!

Narcissistic Much? Bow Wow's Edition!

Rapper/actor Bow Wow has come clean to his fans by announcing that he has a daughter. There had been a lot of talk that he had fathered a child but he had remained mum until he posted an open letter on his website. As I read the letter, what went through my mind was "damn, did dude complete high school?" I'm a stickler for grammar. Sue me. Anyhoo, the reason for this entry is not the fact that he has a new baby but yet how narcissistic he is. I watched a clip from his upcoming documentary "Who is Shad Moss." Ummm... let's just say, Bow Wow needs a piece of humble pie. His mother Theresa seems like such a sweet woman who always has such a positive attitude. She constantly tweets positive messages. Her son is a different story. Geesh... WTF is Bow Wow? Chile please. People that are bigger stars than him don't even act in that manner. Please take a seat boy. You're still wet behind the ears. Child Effin' Bye! Peep the clip and you decide:

Boy, you better hope that $$$ lasts. Smh... FOH!

Laura Govan On Joining Basketball Wives LA!

Laura Govan, sister of Vh1's Basketball Wives' alum Gloria Govan and former fiancee of Orlando Magic Gilbert Arenas is stepping into the spotlight and has joined the cast of Basketball Wives LA. Sidebar: Laura Govan was all over the blogs for allegedly cheating with Shaquile O'Neal while he was still married to Shaunie hence causing all the tension between Gloria and Shaunie during season 1 and 2. A few months ago, Gilbert left Laura while she was pregnant with their fourth child.

The on-again/off-again relationship of Gilbert Arenas and his girlfriend/babymama Laura Govan played like a reality show, so it was probably inevitable that it would end up on television.

Govan has joined the cast of “Basketball Wives LA,” VH1’s spinoff of the hit series about the wives, girlfriends and exes of NBA players. Also on the show: Govan’s younger sister Gloria, who appeared on the first season and is long-term engaged to Matt Barnes of the Lakers.

“I just wanted to showcase a new chapter in my life” A fresh start, a fresh outlook on life as a single mom.”

Not just any single mom: She gave birth just three weeks ago to son Aloni, her fourth child with Arenas. The two broke up six months ago (he was traded to Orlando, she went to L.A.) and are locked in a contentious child support case. Govan said she and Gilbert “don’t communicate” but are working “for the best interests” of the children.

It’s certainly not a problem for VH1. The ongoing drama, executive producer Noah Pollack said, “is really pretty powerful stuff.” Teaming up with Gloria sealed the deal: “The fact that they’re sisters is a great, great story for us.”

The show, which debuts in late August, started filming just before the baby was born. Pollack calls Govan a “spark plug” who doesn’t hold back and can really drive a story. “I just showcase who I am,” she said. “My needs, my wants, my frustrations.”

Govan said she wasn’t worried about Arenas trying to block her appearance on the show: “Whatever happens happens.”

I'll be tuning in.
